Sanket’s Review: “Kya Super Kool hai Hum” though shatters all heights of being vulgar, it surely entertains!

Cast: Ritesh Deshmukh, Neha Sharma, Anupam Kher, Tushar Kapoor, Sarah Jane Dias, Chunkey Pandey, Kavin Dave

Director: Sachin Yardi

Length: 2.20 hours approximately

What could one expect from KYA SUPER KOOL HAI HUM, when it’s a sequel to a film that’s sex comedy! This sequel is fitting extension of its prequel. Unlike that film, this film has zero kind of story, and yet if it reveals a laugh out of you, trust me, its just the adulterated humor that has worked big time for this film. Comedy is a very serious trade here, but choosing a way of delivering a comedy film is bizarrely different. Yes we had a DELHI BELLY doing all vulgarity in those 100 minutes span, but it had a smart screenplay and script to back its vulgarity, making it excellent entertainer. KYA SUPER KOOL HAI HUM has one department of DELHI BELLY- vulgarity, but miserably lacks the second one- any sort of story.

The adult humor is so sharp and so over the top that it shocks you as well bring the house down. Don’t be surprised if you witness a seat broken in theater. Yes that kind of jokes one will enjoy in this over long film. The first 30-40 minutes speeds so fast that you don’t have a single second to give rest to your mouth, except for that melodious song “Dil Garden Garden” which lands up in between maintaining the momentum rightly. Yes, the pace dips because between two one joke to another one, there’s nothing in the film which interests and that is because of lack of any sort of story. But in anyways, the two songs and some hilarious comic scenes make it up for very good first half. The Chunkey Pandey track is enormously pedestrian and pointless and it brings down the speed at times.

Unlike many films, KYA SUPER KOOL HAI HUM remains stable post-intermission, mostly because it has no story which will slow down or will eat up the pace. At one point, you feel exhausted with the kind of force of jokes the film throws at you. No matter if it makes sense in this film or not, but if its funny just add it. To be honest, jokes definitely brings ache in your stomach at times. Though in pre-climax scenes, the things goes bit slow. Just when you feel that the film is falling into emotional set-up, the director thankfully shifts on to a hilarious climax.

The songs are really good! All three songs are thrown needlessly in the narration, but they are very deliciously choreographed and thus they enhance the value. Cinematography is very good and captures some beautiful locales. Dialogues are witty and has maximum amount of adulteration. Sachin Yardi’s direction is alright.

Ritesh Deshmukh remains the best of lot. His comic timing is just takes you away. Tushar Kapoor sets good chemistry with Deshmukh, though at times he remains bit awkward, and his dance in one of the song is unintentionally hilarious. He needs to work there for sure! Neha Sharman and Sara Jane Dias gets ample scope in the film. In-fact, both has decent screen presence and besides that both wears revealing clothes which make them look sheer gorgeous! Anupam Kher and Kavin Dave are good. Chunkey Pandey fails miserably!

Agreed that this film shatters all heights of being vulgar, but it entertains and how! The jokes are genuinely good and some are hilarious to an unimaginable extent. Also it has some good performances and very good songs. Overall, it’s a “paisa vasool” film all the way!

Sanket’s Review: “Gattu” is strongly recommended.

Cast: Mohommad Samad, Jayant das, Naresh Kumar.

Director: Rajan Khosa

Length: 1.20 hours approximately

The kind of approach GATTU has is very appreciable. There’s no preaching, no emotional meltdown moments and yet the film touches your heart because of the exemplary performances and for the striking simplicity. Lasting for only 80 minutes, GATTU is strongly recommended because its so well directed and so well performed.

It starts with a really smart animation which has relevance to the plot the film carries. Based on very uncomplicated and yet an unconventional plot, it’s a film that’s engaging because of the inherent characters and the soft humor that jumps straight out of the realistic conversations between the protagonist and people around. Note that excellent scene where GATTU convinces his friends about that terrorism which may soon come to their school. Also a lighter twist in the end is convincingly brought in film.

But GATTU has its setback several times. The haywire plan of GATTU to just cut down a kite looks bit over the top. No doubt the plan also consists of some funny moments, but the haywire plan could’ve been improvised.

The background score is very good. Also the locations instantly transfer you to protagonist’s life. The dialogues are very realistic and enhance the humor as well.

Mohommad Samad as Gattu is very believable. He is unable to give clear pronunciation of words, but that part suited the role perfectly. Naresh Kumar as Gattu’s uncle does very good job. Rest all performers including his school gang and his principle does honest job.

GATTU is a must-watch because of its approach. The film doesn’t want you to stress your brains, but the film in turn stresses on your heart.

Sanket’s Review: “Cocktail” deserved better execution!

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Diana Penty, Deepika Padukone, Randeep Hooda, Dimple Kapadia, Boman Irani.

Director- Homi Adjaina

Length: 2.20 hours approximately.

If Imtiaz Ali has written the film, then one surely has a reason to get excited for a COCKTAIL. What’s in the store is something tad disappointing. To begin with, COCKTAIL has many clichés which a conventional two girls-one boy story has. She loves him, but he loves another ‘her’. COCKTAIL revolves around three different personalities who gets friend before they know it and love takes place between the three. And more importantly, some scenes definitely looks inspired from LOVE AAJ KAL and the whole Dimple Kapadia track looks lifted from Tarun Mansukhani’s DOSTANA. But all said and done, if someone is really looking for a buoyant, breeze love story, COCKTAIL is not bad an option.

The first half entertains and how! The proceedings has brisk pace and also there’s nothing serious about the film. The three guys are having fun and that is amazingly presented. The humor arrives mostly out of the realistic type conversations. Deepika Padukone’s entry is sparkling. The “Sheila ki Jawaai” dance brings the house down. In-fact it’s the best scene of the film and Saif deserves all the points for that scene. Also the two excellent songs “Daaru desi” and “Tumhi Ho Bandhu” raises the momentum. The first half is good, but the interval point guides you that the film have started to fall in that predictable zone.

And here you go- the second half goes as predictable as it could. Though some scenes like the one when Deepika is drunk and she throws away all her feelings. It’s such a poignant scene, which Deepika justifies it perfectly. But in overall scenario, the film drowns post intermission. The pace of second half is exactly in contrast of what the first half has.

Music is excellent. “Yaariyan”, “Second Hand Jawaani” and the other two of the first half are all very well composed and used in the film. Saif is good in his role. He understands how his character needs to emote and he does well. Diana Penty has some acting clutches for sure. Nonetheless, she looks gorgeous and does well in some scenes. But, if at all COCKTAIL is any good; thank it to Padukone who shows up a brilliant piece of acting. She proved it yet again how tremendously well she can act. Kudos to her! Dimple Kapadia and Boman Irani don’t have much to do. Randeep Hooda is fine. Imtiaz Ali’s script is not much happening but surely the film deserved better execution by Homi Adjaina who spoils it for in last 30 minutes. Its too damn slow than what it should have been. The editing should’ve been crispier.

To sum it up, COCKTAIL has its negatives in many forms, but it’s not entirely unwatchable. It has Deepika’s exemplary act, some good peppy music, amazing jokes and Imtiaz’s good dialogues. But, one surely had better expectations from COCKTAIL. Watch it if you promise yourself to not expect anything much from it.

Sanket’s Review: “Bol Bachchan” has good entertainment value!

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Prachi Desai, Asin, Krushna.

Director: Rohit Shetty

Length: 2.30 hours approximately.

Rohit Shetty tries to bring a good blend of comedy, drama and car dashing! But he definitely needs to know that comedy is the only genre which enhances the efficiency level of his every film. The wheelers dashing is fine up to a zenith, but crossing the zenith surely reflects negatively on the film. And the drama is heights of ignorance towards comedy. In such a big canvas comedy, it’s a crime adding dozen of dramatic moments and that when there’s no scope for it. But, but, but, hold your breath, Shetty never disappoints when it comes to comedy! He has some miraculous comic genes in him and he collaborates excellently with his dialogue writers who have done one hell of fabulous job in BOL BACHCHAN.

The film establishes glowingly well. Each character is well described and smartly brought in the film. In-fact from script point of view, BOL BACHCHAN is well written for entire first half. Some jokes are just unimaginably hilarious. And one of the best scenes of the film which lands up just before intermission goes to Abhishek Bachchan for his Dostana act which he does with aplomb. Also the “mothers” episode creates havoc in theater. Its these priceless scenes which takes BOL BACHCHAN too a high level as far as first half is concerned.

But the pace drowns in post intermission, though not in a sudden mode. There aplenty gags even in second half, but one could blame only Shetty for a disappointing 20 minutes in end. The idea of climax though is very fresh but the execution could’ve been better. Some jokes falls flat on face at times.

Music is a letdown. The opening song is very poor where as the other two are decent. Sajid-Farhad’s dialogues spring a pleasant surprise with their wit. Ajay Devgn’s hinglish dialogues is one of the best thing happened to this film. The script has a good start, though screenplay is silly at times! Shetty is a fantastic director with minimum share of flaws. The editing should’ve been more strict to not let the film reach 150 minutes mark.

But the film belongs to Ajay Devgn. Ajay Devgn’s hinglish is used many times and yet each line evokes big laughs! Ajay Devgn emerges the shining star of the show. Thumbs Up! Abhsihek bachchan delivers another comic performance with sheer zeal. As pointed before, the scene before interval reveals how great he could be in his “Dostana” act. Krushna gets good screen space. He does well in overall, but at times he goes too much over the top. Both Asin and Prachi are good in their roles and also looks pretty enough!

BOL BACHCHAN’s strengths are the dialogues, Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan, Shetty’s brilliant comedy and the fantastic first half. There are negatives like unwanted drama, excessive action and poor below average music. But in overall context, the positives definitely win over bringing good entertainment value in the film! If you could enjoy GOLMAAL series, then you will have good time with BOL BACHCHAN.
